"BONKEY"
(A born "KEY" to the world)
On October 30, 1992, one of Carmen Mc Cain's "three beautiful children" was fatally shot and killed in a drive-by shooting. This occurred at The Irondale Pizza Hut, after a Shades Valley High School football game. That night, God, through Bonkey, brought the team to a VICTORY, that led them to become #1!
They were now headed to the "PLAYOFFS", after a winning season.
Instead, a bullet to the heart of 16-year-old Nezariah Ramone Mc Cain (Bonkey), left all who knew him totally devastated. The four young juveniles that were involved in the shooting, did not know him. They simply shot into a crowd. Bonkey was a 12th grade, (graduating senior) of Shades Valley High School, a football star and an honor student. Every college in the nation wanted him. Only a determined, broken-hearted, pain riddled mother, with "Faith in God", could continue living after such a travesty.
This mother was Carmen Mc Cain. Not only did her Faith sustain and motivate her to keep living, but it inspired her to accept an almost impossible mission. THAT MISSION BEGAN WITH "FORGIVENESS, AND INCLUDED, doing all that she could, to help "STOP THE VIOLENCE" and work to keep "ALL KIDS ALIVE" by ensuring a 'safer society' and 'heart changes'.
She began her mission single-handedly, (AFTER MUCH PRAYER AND FASTING), by contacting 97% of the Mayors throughout Jefferson County. Only 2% responded. 1% was very Negative. "Sorry, Mrs. Mc Cain, the problem is too big. There's nothing that we can do", he said. "I refuse to believe that", Mrs. Mc Cain stated.
"Listen, lady, I didn't kill your son!", he yelled.
She tearfully asked, "But, Sir, if he had been your son, don't you think you would have responded to me a little differently?" "NO! he said emphatically. At first, Mrs. Mc Cain felt hopeless and began to weep. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit stood up tall inside of her and bade her to "FORWARD MARCH!" MOTHERS AGAINST VIOLENCE HAD BEGUN!
Founded in 1992 by Mrs. Mc Cain, members of Mothers Against Violence REALIZED THAT AS IMPORTANT AS IT IS TO "grieve", ONE MUST NOT BECOME "consumed" BY IT. After a good "Cry", the only way to change things, is to pick up your weapons and FIGHT!
Mothers Against Violence is a three-dimensional entity. It includes: Mothers Against Violence/1000 Real Men/Youth Against Violence. These are not three separate ministries. It is a Unified, God-oriented, Holy Spirit-led "Body" of men, women and young people, working towards "preventive mechanisms", that starts with targeting the very young.
Doctor Willie James Kimmons and (the late) Mrs. Constance Walrond, as Vice- Presidents, assisted Mrs. Mc Cain in maintaining the structural view of Mothers Against Violence. Together, their prayers, unity, fortitude, integrity, and faith, unveiled Mothers Against Violence, as a mirrored image of "The Body of Christ".
In reflection, each "bodily limb", (member), embraces the realism that one can not and must not operate, without the other. "For the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of thee". (1Corinthians 12:21).
Together, the unity, strength, wisdom, understanding and love of each member, allows the full body to stand strong and focused. This unified body is dedicated to the "survival" and "nurturing" of our nation's youth, by means of Christian, ethical, social, educational and political means of moral authority and intervention. Realizing that an ounce of PREVENTION, is worth more than a POUND OF CURE:
- MAV- is an active ministry committed to stopping senseless violence. In view of PREVENTION, self-esteem, imparting HOPE, instilling high morals and positive "Lifetime" goals, is only a start.
- MAV- has been a unifying force for Politicians, Pastors, Ministers, Teachers, Wardens, Chaplains, Inmates, Parents, Children and Victims of Violence, all across the country. This force confronts and combats all issues that contributes to violence, or that sits idly by, doing NOTHING TO ERADICATE senseless violence, from our society.
- MAV- sole purpose is to offer Jesus Christ, (the only TRUE answer), to heal men and women, boys and girls, our communities, broken homes and families, churches, schools, our government and our world.
Along with parents and positively instituted "physical" programs, MAV's spiritual solution is:
- Lamentations 2:18-19 -"Their heart cried out to the Lord, "O wall of the daughter of Zion, Let tears run down like a river day and night"; Give yourself no relief; Give your eyes no rest.
- "Arise, cry out in the night, At the beginning of the watches; Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him For the life of your young children, Who faint from hunger at the head of every street."
- 2Chronicles 7:14 -"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land".
- Joshua 6:20 -So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
William Penn said it best, "The record demonstrates that when God goes out of a people's Government, a great vacuum is created, which immediately sucks in a 'tyrant' to take God's place".
This same demonic "TYRANT" takes over in our homes, and other areas of our lives, when we leave God out of "life's equation".
Bonkeys' life and death, was and is a God-given "catalyst" that have bridged the gap between the races. God allowed him to touch more lives in 'only 16 years ', than most of us touch in a lifetime. He, in His omnipotence, knew that the world needed the light from this "Bright Torch" to continue.
TODAY, Mothers Against Violence is "ALIVE AND WELL". MAV picked up the "torch", that was lit by Bonkey's 'beautiful life', and continues his proclamation to the nation that "America and the World", must turn BACK TO GOD. No longer can it be, "God Bless America". It must be, "America, Bless God!"
